Recently, Disney appealed for an anime ban in India. And people shouldn’t be surprised that Delhi High Court has accepted the appeal. Yes! All the rumors about 118 anime and animation website ban you’re hearing these days are all true! So what is actually going to happen? Will you be able to watch your favorite anime in the near future? And WHY is Disney so interested in anime all of a sudden? Keep reading the article to find out!
So, let me start by just saying, that Disney wants to ban illegal anime websites and not “Anime” in general as everyone is making it out to be. The thing is Disney owns rights and is responsible for the distribution of many popular anime from Japan. Like, Doraemon, Shinchan, Pokemon, etc. And all these streaming websites which provide anime for free without charging anything, and illegally. With the rise of usage of internet among youths and children alike, the audience tends to stream/download anime for free and watch it at their own convenience rather than Television.
This threatens Disney to the very core, and hence they are trying to ban all these streaming websites, and right now reportedly 118 websites have been listed to be banned, and Delhi High Court has accepted the plea for the Anime Ban in India.
One more possibility is that, after banning these websites, Disney may invest in anime and provide anime legally on their streaming service. But, no such news has seen any light of the day till now. We can just hope that they do start adding good anime on their platform.
While it is still not clear what will be the scale of this Anime ban in India, but our wild guess is that the users will still be able to access these websites by using a VPN. While I’ve heard that they’re trying to do much more than that, so that you can’t even have access to the torrents, but personally, I feel that piracy is a thing that can never be erased from existence. You may control it or reduce it, but you cannot remove it. And, as the popular saying goes, cut one head, two more will rise!
What does that mean that the ban in dynamic? This means that Disney can add more websites to the list. They can add as many new websites as they want. So even if new websites will rise to give you “free anime” but they can still be a banned by Disney. But as I said, it is impossible to stop piracy, so you don’t need to panic for that. Anyways pirating Hollywood and Bollywood movies is also prohibited, but you still download them right? So, fear not! Rather, you should think about how you can support anime legally!
There are a lot of different ways to watch anime legally, but still, people prefer free sources because of excuses like “convenience” or “streaming quality”. I just hate these ignorant excuses down to my very soul, I can’t understand how they can be so negligent? If you won’t support anime legally, at least, those that you can! then, there will be no anime providers! No one will want to provide them or have them on their platform, which means no distributors for the medium. That will just end up in stopping anime production completely! Only BIG franchises like One Piece, Pokemon or Dragon Ball will be able to survive this, and yes, that will be the end of the anime culture you’re so proud of! So just kill your damn convenience and quality urges and support those anime that are streamed on YouTube (Muse Asia) for free! If you have Netflix, watch them there, watch them on Crunchyroll, Funimation with VPN, anywhere you can, just don’t be ignorant anymore, please!
