Recently a rumor was going viral that Demon Slayer Infinity Train or Kimetsu No Yaiba Mugen Train grossed more than One Piece Stampede and DBS Broly in just 3 Days. Which was really hard to believe because even with the popularity Demon Slayer has been gaining over the past year, Dragon Ball and One Piece are still huge franchises. And, it was hard to believe any of those claims.

So I dug deeper into the matter and what I found is quiet interesting.

How Much Did Demon Slayer Earn?

So, if we talk about the first day collection, which is already discussed in detail in this article: Demon Slayer Infinity Train is Breaking Records in Japan!!

According to Crunchyroll, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba THE MOVIE Mugen Train grossed over 1.2 Billion yen on the first day of its release on just its opening day. And let me tell you, it is huge. You can read about it in the article pinned above.

Now, how much did Demon Slayer actually earned in 3 days to surpass DBS Broly? I came across a tweet by Makoto Shinkai Sensei to celebrate the grand opening weekend of the movie and to congratulate the mangaka of Kimetsu No Yaiba Koyoharu Gotouge. He wrote in his tweet “Hmm … This can happen at a Japanese movie box office. Exactly a feat!” “Kimetsu no Yaiba” released 3 days to box office 4.6 billion yen Demon start (Nikkan Sports)”.

You can see the original tweet here:

DBS Broly and One Piece Stampede Collection?

We did some research on the actual box office revenue figures to verify the claims of such posts claiming Demon Slayer surpassed DBS Broly and OP Stampede Box office collection. The following data is taken from Wikipedia.

One Piece Stampede Japanese Box Office Collection

As can be seen from the data above, the lifetime collection of DBS Broly is 4 Billion yen. And, that of One Piece Stampede is 5.5 Billion yen. So, it can be safely said that those claims were half fake and half true. Demon Slayer surpassed DBS Broly, but not One Piece Stampede by earning 4.6 Billion yen in just 3 days. And seeing the rate at which the movie is earning, it will surpass even One Piece Stampede, in just one or two more days. What’s more to see is that, will it become the highest-grossing anime movie in Japan? Or will Spirited Away still hold its crown? We will keep you updated on the matter in the future.
