For all the solo leveling haters

Alright let's get this straight. Solo leveling to a lot of the newer folk might seem banal and generic, however this is because solo leveling is the og of its genre. While it is true that solo leveling didn't start the hunter game system (overgeared and legendary moonlight sculptor were some predecessors), it's stunning art and uncluttered but more serious storyline helped greatly popularize the genre. For the oldies, solo leveling was something novel and a large improvement to the options available before. For the newbies, many artists have delved into the genre because of the popularity that solo leveling brought, and either directly copied or inadvertently copied solo levelings storyline, art, and characters making solo leveling seem generic and boring. Overall, I think solo leveling is still exceptional in its genre, though I do agree that it's no longer holds the title of best. Fact is that solo leveling at the time wasn't generic and that's why so many people loved the series.

Solo leveling wasn’t the first to create the dungeon or video game aspect, been around for literal decades in the form of fan fiction, novels, and probably some other manga. Solo leveling was cool but in hindsight it won’t remain relevant or even goated in a decade. Pretty cool tho tbh, I remember when its chapters were first getting released It’s just another golden finger power fantasy jerk off for losers

Hard to tell who has lower standards, isekai readers or korean webtoon readers. Either way, both are shiteaters of the highest order

When I was new to reading mangas/manhwas I read solo leveling to get into this medium, it was around chapter 70 something, by the time it ended my taste had completely changed and I would never read something like solo leveling now. It's a good manwha if you haven't read much. It's a power level slop where jin woos power increases exponentially to the point he's fighting some celestial beings towards the end. I liked the arcs which had politics and drama involved but they were very less. It's good art and typical shounen trope made it popular

You'll only enjoy solo... If its your first time reading such manhwa, And if have already manhwas like this it will seem way much predictable like you know what is going to happen next, and use time globe was pretty bad move in that manhwa there should not exist such things ( i liked the series just becuz of igris and beru)

A fair assessment, but let’s thrust deeper. Solo Leveling was not just a story—it was an event. A seismic shift in webtoon culture. It refined, distilled, and perfected the dungeon-crawler/hunter formula. It didn’t merely ride the wave of its predecessors; it became the wave. The reason newer readers find it “banal” is because they are swimming in Solo Leveling’s wake. It’s like looking at a classic muscle car and calling it outdated because today’s vehicles have copied its design and optimized its flaws. But back when it dropped? It was the blueprint. Yes, its reign as "best" has passed. Yes, newer works have taken its foundation and built upon it. But without Solo Leveling, would those newer series even exist? Would the landscape of power fantasy manhwa look the same? Doubtful. So, calling it generic now is missing the point. It was so influential that it became the standard. It’s not generic—it’s the progenitor.

I liked it when I read it the first time, but the second time made the cracks become more apparent. Plot barely able to interest anyone, side characters who exist purely to be JinWoo's hype men, art style is the same for almost all manwha's that follow that genre. If not for the hype that followed it originally, it would have fallen into the background with the rest of it's kind

Just because it's original doesn't mean its good. And I hate the art, idk how so many people read manhwa

Solo Leveling was always generic. You just hadn't read enough similar stories to realize it was at the time.
