The Problem With Manga of Today

Reading old and new material, you begin to notice the issues, flaws, and shortcomings within manga made in later periods of time. First, I want to ask. Has there ever been a manga that you have read that was created after the year 2010 that you consider to be the greatest work of all time? Some may say that works like Jojolands (2023) might contend for the best recently released manga, but I shant count that one due to the fact that the author of the manga had been working on manga for 30+ years, with the first part of the manga beginning in 1987. The Problem with the manga of today is that authors tend to assume that the reader is only reading for these reasons: 1 - erotic pictures 2 - "aura farming" 3 - relatable main character They never take a moment to add layers and layers of depth for someone to peel back, they always just lay it all out for the readers. That takes the genius out of anything they write, and thus makes it a bland and uninteresting manga to read.

2 is the biggest problem most anime fans are surface level readers so you gotta have stuff like cool moments and cool characters which can take attention away from good character building but honestly maybe try looking for more hidden stuff

if its after 2010 land of the lustrous and tokyo ghoul have gotten high praise for sure but my pick would be beastars which gets dismissed heavily as a furry show

golden kamuy reiri Both from the 2010s. The only thing I would maybe consider better than these 2 would be bakuon rettou. There is also good 2020s stuff, but mostly made by Koreans. Generally I think you are vastly overestimated the amount of good manga there was back in the day. There may have been an increase recently, but the vast majority of every sort of commercial art is slop that is just forgotten with time. No one reads or talks about all old ecchi or self insert mangas because they were confined to their time, and no one will talk about the modern strains in the future.
